Kareena Kapoor: Not Forgotten Shahid Kapoor’s Sex Appeal

Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor is one gal who doesn’t hesitate to call a spade a spade. Well, the gal who has had a great innings in the film industry has also had some relationships with her co stars that have become imbibed into the psyche of her fans.
One of her most remembered off screen relationships perhaps will always be with Shahid Kapoor. The duo was almost seen as the cutest couple in tinsel town and both seemed quite happy with each other at one point of time. But, as they say everything in a man’s life is destined.
Thus, the two were soon reported to have split and both moved on, with Kareena becoming very close to Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor started getting linked up to many of his co -stars including Priyanka Chopra, and till date there are speculations whether Shahid and Priyanka are in a relationship or not.

Shahrukh Khan refuses to enact Lalit Modi

Percept Picture Company is going to come up with its next project titled ‘Commissioner’, which is based on the life of Indian Premiere League chairman Lalit Modi, seen from the eyes of a journalist. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was reportedly offered to play Lalit Modi’s role in the movie and he allegedly rejected the offer in spite of getting a personal request from Modi himself.
Apparently, SRK does not want to get into any controversy as he is such an important part of the IPL. He is probably trying to keep himself away from any controversy related to Modi.
A source was quoted stating that everything was fine on the IPL front when the movie was announced but things changed following the recent controversy on Lalit Modi.
Shailendra Singh, the Joint MD of Percept, who is also the producer of ‘Commissioner’, confirmed that Shah Rukh was approached to play the role of Lalit Modi. He added that SRK denied even when Lalit Modi himself asked him to take it up.

One’ to Release in June 201

The much talked movie of Bollywood Ra One, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor, has finally announced its release date. The high budget sc-fi movie is scheduled to hit the theaters on June 3, 2011.
Anubhav Sinha has directed this movie in which SRK turns superhero for the first time in his almost two decade long career in Bollywood.
Speaking about his character in the movie SRK said that his character is called G.One, who is made of solid electricity. G.One has entered this real world from a virtual one to combat against the evil force called Ra One.
It sounds like a total new avatar of Shah Rukh, who is usually seen romancing around the leading ladies with his charming nature. It is a great challenge to do some extraordinary stunts and tricks in such sci-fi movies. If the technology is not used properly, the whole project may get ruined.

Shahrukh Khan Enthralls Dhaka Fans

Bollywood King Khan Shah Rukh Khan received a grand welcome in Dhaka when he performed there along with colleagues Rani Mukerji and Arjun Rampal. SRK was there to perform at the show ‘King Khan Live in Dhaka’ and he was supposed to campaign to make Sundarban’s mangrove forests as one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
However, the adulation by the audience was so lucrative that King Khan probably forgot about the serious job! Shah Rukh even greeted the fans in Bengali saying that he has brought good wishes from India to this nation of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was the founding leader of Bangladesh. SRK performed on his popular numbers like ‘Dard-e–disco’ and ‘Shava Shava’.
Rani, who is a Bengali, thrilled the audience when he started speaking in Bengali. She also performed on her hit tracks like ‘Hum Tum. ‘Saathiya’ and ‘Shava Shava’.
When both Rani and SRK charmed the Bengali audience in

Shahrukh Khan: Turning All Foes Into Friends

Shahrukh Khan the King of Bollywood has certainly been in the news these days due to the fact that two of his biggest films are due to release this coming year, one being Faran Akhtar’s Don 2 and the other being his home production RA.ONE.
However there is something else that SRK is being spoken about quite appreciatively. Now what could that be?
Well the fact that Shahrukh Khan had recently gone on to publicly acknowledge the fact that his animosity between the two top names in the industry- Salman Khan and Farah Khan could well be due to his own fault.
Now, this bit of amazing revelation coming out right from the King of B town’s mouth was quite surprising to one and all.
Shahrukh Khan has always maintained silence while there has been a crack in his relationship between Salman Khan due to some ruckus on Katrina Kaif’s birthday bash a couple of years ago and him and even with Farah Khan as reports are that he was quite upset that Farah had not taken him in her latest venture Tees Maar Khan. SRK has never ever come out with what the trouble between him and Salman Khan was or with Farah Khan is.

Hrithik Roshan to hit again with ‘Krrish 2′

Rakesh Roshan has taken the failure of Kites very seriously and hence planning to hit back with a sequel of 2006 hit film Krrish starring his son Hrithik Roshan.
The father son duo has given three films together till now, which includes Hrithik’s debut movie Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai then Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish. All the three movies were highly appreciated and did a good box office business.
Rakesh had planned for a sequel of Krrish earlier too but it never materialized. However, the debacle of Kites has made him work on it very seriously to make Hrithik stand tall in the top list again. The earlier plan of Krrish 2 was mainly cancelled due to the extra special effects in Avatar, which was released at the end of 2009.
According to the sources, “Roshans have already started meetings for the sequel of Krrish. They have taken the debacle of Kites very seriously. All the three films Rakesh made with his son Hrithik were big hits so they want to ensure the combination creates history again”.
The source added, “After giving those hits, Rakesh wanted to take a break from direction and start producing films. Among all these, Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra was supposed to direct Krrish 2. They conducted several meetings for this but it got dissolved”.
However, whatever be the reason, the audience will get to see their favorite Indian superhero back on the big screen. This time, it is expected to be much entertaining than the first one.

Bollywood Stars at The World Cup Finals

At first, it seemed that like actor John Abraham, Anil Kapoor too would not be able to make it to the World Cup finals. By Saturday evening Anil Kapoor had still not left for the World Cup. And it was unlikely that he would do so.
Finally he did make it.
Sighed Anil, “Some work had come up. It looked like I wouldn’t be able to go to Johannesburg although I was booked packed and had seats in the stadium. But I finally did make it. I am the brand ambassador and this is the biggest sports event. I somehow made it”, said Anil on Saturday evening as he left for South Africa.
Another football enthusiast Dino Morea too seemed unsure of making it to Johannesburg. “I’m in London all set to go. But my air ticket is not confirmed. If it doesn’t happen I’ll just have to watch it on television here in London.”
Dino is a huge football fan. “I play football and I love watching it. I was supporting Italy because I am half-Italian. Now I’m supporting Spain because they’ve never won the World Cup.”
The football fever has never been more pronounced in Bollywood. With the World Cup Finals around the corner many stars have taken off for Johannesburg to witness the grand finals.
Sanjay Dutt left his pregnant wife in Mumbai to be with his two non-filmy best-friends from South Africa (name withheld on request) for the finals.
Says Sanju, “I wouldn’t miss the World Cup for the world. I’m a huge football fan. I place it above cricket in my scheme of joy. I watched the silliest of games in the semi-finals. For the finals I had to be here (in Johannesburg)”.
Dutt is rooting for Spain all the way. So is Jackky Bhagnani. Producer Vashu Bhagnani’s son has apparently secured some of best seats in the stadium for himself and his five friends from Mumbai.
Speaking on the eve of the match from Johannesburg, Jackky exulted, “Man, I’ve the best view possible! I could never afford these seats. They are among the best in the stadium. An industrialist friend from Russia got me these seats. I can’t express my excitement. I feel like an 8-year old who has got his favorite toy. My friends and I have our tee-shirts, caps, and flags ready. We’re rooting for Spain all the way”.
Adding to Jackky’s excitement is the fact that this is the first World Cup match he’s attending.
Shah Rukh Khan and Imran Khan have already tweeted about their presence in Johannesburg for the World Cup finals. Shah Rukh’s best friend Karan Johar couldn’t make it. Other football enthusiasts from Bollywood who had to miss the event are Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor who are shooting in Colombo and Delhi, respectively.

Indianised 'Italian Job' to be shot in New Zealand

Stability of the Indian film The Italian Job in New Zealand

New Zealand, July 12 (IANS) After "I Hate Luv Storys", partly shot in the beautiful Queenstown city of New Zealand, another big-budget Bollywood movie, a remake of "The Italian Job", is scheduled to be filmed here towards the end of the year.
Director duo Abbas-Mustan has signed Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor for the remake. A crew of 90 to 100 from India will fly down for about 50 days of shooting, a New Zealand Tourism statement said.
"The producers have been in New Zealand, scouting for scenes and camera staff. The movie will be shot in Auckland and Wellington, with Auckland's Viaduct Basin - in the city's vibrant downtown waterside area - targeted for the big car chase scenes," the statement added.
The project will have a budget of around NZ$43 million (US$30 million/Rs 1.4 billion). Abbas-Mustan say that no compromises will be made to make sure the latest version of "The Italian Job" is as good as the original.
"We're going to Indianise 'The Italian Job'. We'll add roles for two heroines. We might even have an American actress in the film. And the villain will be played by one of the top heroes. We want to make it better than the original," Abbas-Mustan said.
Michael Caine starred in the original 1969 version of "The Italian Job". A 2003 remake with Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron and Donald Sutherland was also a commercial success.

'Kites', which also features Mexican actress Barbara Mori, is produced by Rakesh Roshan and distributed by Reliance BIG Pictures. It released worldwide on May 21 but didn't do well at the box office despite a promising opening.

'Idol' finalist Casey James: 'I'm happy with where I landed'

American Idol contestant Casey James initially charmed judge Kara DioGuardi with his looks — and then charmed America with his musicianship and mellow talent, which carried him all the way to the top three. USA TODAY caught up with James, 27, in a conference call Friday with the media.
Q: After you got the results, Kara told you to stick to your demographic — young girls and women. Were you offended by that, and do you think you're a bit more well-rounded as an artist?
A: I would like to hope so. But I definitely am not offended. That's her opinion. I know nothing of demographics, and my marketing skills are obviously poor — I wouldn't have been doing the same bar gigs for 11 years (if they weren't). But I'd like to think that I have a few more people out there who like what I'm doing

'Shrek 4' to cost $20 in some NYC movie theaters

Four popular movie theaters in New York City have announced the ticket prices for the upcoming Shrek Forever After and for the first time ever, IMAX 3D prices have reached the $20 threshold. The theaters are: AMC Kips Bay, AMC Loews 34th street, AMC Loews Lincoln Square, and the AMC Empire 42nd street. Says media analyst Richard Greenfield of the move: "With the state of the economy remaining questionable, we worry pricing is simply moving up too quickly. The danger is scaring consumers away from the movie theaters." The new price hike follows a recent round of price increases in March, where theaters in NYC raised IMAX and 3D prices as much as 25 percent. At the time, AMC 34th charged $19.50 for the IMAX 3D showing of "How to Train Your Dragon." While the price may scare away a number of consumers, AMC seems to think it is worth the risk, given the recent string of blockbuster successes in IMAX 3D showings, including 'Avatar,' 'Dragon' and 'Alice in Wonderland.' Box office revenue is up 6 percent year-on-year, mainly due to increased price tickets

Watts returns to Cannes, where her star was born

CANNES, France — Naomi Watts had been on the verge of giving up on Hollywood before she came to the Cannes Film Festival nine years ago.

Her own horror franchise, a hit "King Kong" remake and one Academy Award nomination later, Watts returned as a Cannes superstar, lighting up the festival red carpet in two films, the Valerie Plame drama "Fair Game" and Woody Allen's "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger."

Other than a quick stop to hand out an award at Cannes a few years ago, this was Watts' first time back to the festival since it helped launch her career after years of toiling in obscure movies.

Her breakthrough came with a starring role in David Lynch's "Mulholland Dr.", which played at Cannes in 2001.

"It was my career-maker. Anything that I had done was under the radar, so I really was an actor for hire. And then the launching of that film was the launching of me," Watts, 41, said in an interview along the beach near the Palais, the headquarters of the French Riviera festival.

Watts — who was born in England and moved as a teenager with her family to Australia — had been working in obscurity through much of the 1990s in Hollywood, seeing good friend Nicole Kidman climb to stardom while she remained on the fringes.

She often considered packing it in and giving up acting.

"Several times, literally and metaphorically speaking, I packed my bags. Many, many times, and every time, there'd be some little thing that would lure me back," Watts said. "Because ultimately, my heart was set on something, on this whole thing. I mean, I love what I do. I don't always love everything about it, but I love as an actor that you're given a chance to tell stories and move people, hopefully, and help them connect with their own stories."

After "Mulholland Dr." premiered at Cannes, Watts' career finally took off. She earned the lead in the hit horror remake "The Ring" and starred in its sequel. She took on the role Fay Wray originated in the 1933 "King Kong" for director Peter Jackson's mammoth remake. She earned a best-actress Oscar nomination for "21 Grams" opposite Sean Penn, her co-star in "Fair Game."

Watts' personal life has changed dramatically since that first trip to Cannes. She and boyfriend Liev Schreiber, with whom she starred in the drama "The Painted Veil," have two young sons.

Director Doug Liman wanted Watts to star as former CIA covert operative Plame for the same reason he wanted Matt Damon for the title role of "The Bourne Identity" — to help the audience empathize with a character from the unsavory world of espionage.

"It's like a beaming light of warmth and goodness that comes from Naomi Watts, and I thought if I cast her, I could be as hard-edged as I want with Valerie Plame, and you will still root for her. You will still love her, and you will still care for her," Liman said.

"She was going to be lying to her friends, lying to her husband, lying to the people she meets in the field, who can't know that she's a CIA officer."

Plame's cover was blown when officials in President George W. Bush's administration leaked her identity to reporters after Plame's husband wrote an opinion piece questioning White House statements to justify going to war in Iraq.

"Fair Game" depicts the political firestorm that swirled around Plame and husband Joe Wilson (Penn), who carried on his own media barrage against the Bush administration while his wife initially shunned speaking out in public. Plame and Wilson joined Watts and her "Fair Game" collaborators at Cannes for the film's premiere.

Watts also came to Cannes with festival regular Allen, who cast her alongside Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas and Josh Brolin as a woman in a crumbling marriage in the ensemble comedy "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger."

Allen had sought Watts for two previous films, but her schedule had not allowed her to sign on.

"I was nervous about never being invited back," Watts said. "It's a career milestone. I'd grown up watching his films and just loved every second of it. He's one of the true greats."

"Fair Game" and "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" are due in theaters this fall.

Returning to Cannes and marching up the festival's swooping red carpet reminded Watts of her trip there nine years earlier with "Mulholland Dr.," when she was a virtual unknown.

"What a memorable experience it was for me. The first time with such a great director, such a great role, such a great film, and it really seemed to move people," Watts said. "I just remember every detail very, very vividly. I remember what song was playing when I walked up that red carpet" — Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken."

"I remember that song breaking out just as I was opening the door to my car, and I mean, I had to do everything I could just to stop myself from crying, running my makeup, so to speak."

Megan Fox not in 'Transformers 3'; director Michael Bay seeks new starlet

The robots have kicked Megan Fox to the curb - or did the sexy starlet ditch them?
The dark-haired beauty, who has graced dozens of magazine covers since her breakout role in the first "Transformers" film in 2007, has been dumped from its second sequel.
Paramount Pictures has reported that they have opted not to pick up Fox's option for "Transformers 3," and according to Nikki Finke at Deadline.com, it was director Michael Bay who made the call.
"Giving Shia a new love interest [for Shia LeBeouf's character] makes more sense for the story," an insider said, according to Finke.
Fox's PR pals have come out swinging, however, in either an effort to get the record straight or peform a bit of career repair.
"It was her decision not to return. She wishes the franchise the best," reps for 24-year-old actress told People.com.
Fox likely earned Bay's wrath in September when she publically slammed the high-octane director, comparing him to Adolf Hitler.
"[Michael] wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation," she told Wonderland Magazine. "He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he's a nightmare to work for."
Fox did note, however, that off the set he was nicer to be with.
"When you get him away from set, and he's not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he's so awkward, so hopelessly awkward," she said. "He's vulnerable and fragile in real life and then on set he's a tyrant."
"She says some very ridiculous things," Bay responded at the time. "And she still has a lot of growing up to do. You roll your eyes when you see statements like that and think, 'Okay Megan, you can do whatever you want.'"
However, Fox's dismissals comes as something of a surprise, since Bay suggested on his blog in October that he was looking forward to working with her again.
"P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back," he said. "I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture."
Bay and Paramount are now seeking out a suitable replacement. According to reports, the bevy of beauties that could replace Fox include Emmanuelle Chiriqui ("Entourage"), Zoe Saldana ("Avatar," "Star Trek") and models Bar Rafaeli and Brooklyn Decker

Nicolas Cage only eats animals according to their 'dignified' sex lives

Nicolas Cage is not your average carnivore. The off-beat actor reveals that he only eats animals whose sex lives he respects."I love all animals," Cage tells U.K.'s The Sun. "I actually choose the way I eat according to the way animals have sex."While he stays away from pork, the actor says he favors eating fish and birds because they are "very dignified with sex.""I have a fascination with fish, birds, whales - sentient life - insects, reptiles," he adds.Cage, 46, has been known to have an unusual fondness for animals. In addition to sporting a tattoo of a lizard wearing a top hat, the actor once owned an octopus as a pet, according to the British tabloid. He also reportedly purchased a two-headed snake while filming 2009's "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans."He said of his slithery friend, "I met the snake and said, 'Maybe this will be my bodyguard in New Orleans.'"

New hero of Tea Party Rand Paul is so conservative he scares Dick Cheney

Meet the Tea Party's new hero, Rand Paul - a never-elected ophthalmologist from the land of bluegrass who is more red state than Sarah Palin's lipstick.
How conservative is he? The 47-year-old Paul - who trounced establishment candidate Trey Grayson in Kentucky's GOP Senate primary Tuesday - wants to abolish the federal departments of education, commerce and energy, as well as the income tax.
Like Palin, with whom Paul now stands atop the Tea Party cake, he is opposed to all government bailouts and earmarks, and President Obama's "socialist" health care law. He favors a constitutional amendment banning abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.
But in a libertarian twist, he also favors legalizing medical marijuana.
He began the next phase of his renegade Senate bid Wednesday with a decidedly odd tee shot: pointing to Tiger Woods as a role model. Sort of.
The self-styled man of the people was defending his decision to hold his victory party Tuesday night at an exclusive country club. Enter Tiger.
"I think at one time, people used to think of golf and golf clubs and golf courses as being exclusive," Paul explained on "Good Morning America." "[But] I think Tiger Woods has helped to broaden that, in the sense that he's brought golf to a lot of the cities and to city youth."
Maybe, but given that Tiger is better known nowadays for adulterous sex romps with more than a dozen mistresses, it was a politically peculiar defense.
That's not all many Americans might find slightly odd about Paul. Some of his positions frighten even staunch conservatives like former Vice President Dick Cheney, who backed Paul's GOP opponent.
For example, the father of three wants to pull U.S. military forces out of all overseas missions. Like his daddy - former presidential candidate and libertarian Rep. Ron Paul of Texas - he views the Federal Reserve as a source of much trouble that needs to be clamped down.
"We are encountering a day of reckoning," Paul said Tuesday night in one of his many ominous, end-is-near warnings. "And this Tea Party movement is a message to Washington that we are unhappy, and we want things done differently."
It's a pitch that Paul, 47, serves up in an unpolished monotone that all but screams "nonpolitician" - which is precisely what so many conservatives find attractive about him.
"A candidate who isn't that smooth may come across as more authentic, especially in this environment," said GOP consultant Dan Schnur.
Whether it's a winning formula in November's general election - when far more voters will be weighing in - remains to be seen. Democratic Party leaders don't think so, and yesterday they were all but giddy at the prospect of taking on Paul.
"This is a fight we welcome," said one party honcho.
But Kentucky remains a deeply conservative state, and many experts said yesterday that Paul stands a good chance of winning in November and becoming a Tea Party star of the Senate for years to come.

Who Should Win American Idol?

That leaves Krystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze to battle it out in next week's Idol finale, which determines who will be the ninth star to follow in the footsteps of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and the rest.

Big Bucks for “Big Bang Theory” Repeats

Talk about an ever-expanding universe: "The Big Bang Theory" will be on your TV a lot more now that it's inked a syndication deal that's, well, more "bang" for the bucks.
Cable giants TBS and Fox both snagged rights to repeats on their networks, and they didn't come cheap. In fact, Variety is reporting that at $1.5 million an episode, the multi-camera sitcom "set a record price." By the way, that blows away the record set by FX of $800,000 for the syndication rights to "Two and a Half Men."
But "Big Bang" fans are surely not surprised. As the New York Times points out, the show is the highest-rated comedy on TV for adults aged 18-49. And it is a hit in Yahoo! Search: Lookups on "the big bang theory" shot up 2,500% in the last week alone. Searches were also big on "big bang theory cast list," "big bang theory tv episodes," and even "big bang theory theme lyrics." To view a clip from the show, go here.
Although the comedy was created by hit-maker Chuck Lorre ("Two and a Half Men") and is now in its third season, the subject matter doesn't seem like something that would be a slam-dunk success: Two physics prodigies (Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki) in their 20s move next door to a cute blonde (Kaley Cuoco) with show-biz aspirations and no science skills. Let the laughs begin. Really?
But the formula has been a huge hit with critics and viewers alike. One fan recently weighed in on the Yahoo! TV blog: "I love this show. It's my favorite comedy on TV." Another agreed, adding, "I will be buying the first episodes on DVD."
Fans will be happy to hear that the universe has listened — and that they will also be able to catch reruns on cable. Repeats will begin airing in the fall of 2011

Shia LaBeouf: I 'Dropped The Ball' On 'Indiana Jones' Sequel

Shia LaBeouf told the Los Angeles Times that he shares some of the blame for the failures of "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" - but he is also pointing the finger at the monkeys he was forced to swing through the jungle with.
"I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished," Shia told the Los Angeles Times' 24 Frames blog when asked about the fourth "Indiana Jones" movie while in Cannes over the weekend. "You get to monkey-swinging and things like that and you can blame it on the writer and you can blame it on [director] Steven [Spielberg]," he continued. "But the actor's job is to make it come alive and make it work, and I couldn't do it. So that's my fault. Simple."

The actor went on to emphasize that he believes that modern audiences are hard to fool.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Shia is not the only "Indiana Jones" star who was less-than satisfied with the movie.

"We [Harrison Ford and Shia] had major discussions. He wasn't happy with it either," he also told the Los Angeles Times, referring to the movie the movie that grossed over $786 million worldwide. "Look, the movie could have been updated. There was a reason it wasn't universally accepted... I'll probably get a call. But he needs to hear this. I love him. I love Steven."
Shia's "Indiana Jones" comments come just days after he publicly criticized "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
"When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did," he told the Associated Press on Thursday in Cannes when asked about the Michael Bay blockbuster. "There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone."
VIEW THE PHOTOS: Hot Shots Of Shia LaBeouf!
He feels that the scope of the second "Transformers" movie hurt it.
"We got lost. We tried to get bigger. It's what happens to sequels. It's like, how do you top the first one? You've got to go bigger," he continued. "Mike went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie. ... You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."

Charice - a pint-sized teen singer from the Philippines - may become America's next top pop star

She stands barely 5 feet tall and won't be legal for another four years. But when 17-year-old pop singer Charice opens her mouth, out pours a voice as burly and sure as Whitney Houston's in her "I Will Always Love You" prime.
That surprise twist made this teen singer from the Philippines a YouTube phenom throughout Asia last year and, more recently, led to appearances on "Ellen" and even "Oprah."
The girl born Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco just released her self-titled debut, featuring a Rihanna-sound-alike single, "Pyramid," that has already hit the Billboard dance chart's top five. The News met Charice to talk in her favorite place in New York: the ESPN Zone in Times Square.
When people look at you, no one expects that huge voice to come out. Does this make you the Susan Boyle of teen pop?
Oh, that's such a compliment. But in the Philippines, it's not such a big deal because there are a lot of little people there and a lot of them have big voices. It feels weird to me that people are so surprised. But I do think it's one of the reasons I made it.
The only thing most Americans know about the Philippines is Imelda Marcos' gigantic shoe collection. What should we know about the place?
The Philippines is a very musical country. If you go there, most everyone sings. And even if they don't, they know who's great at it. Also, there are great tourist spots. The weather's always warm. You should go.
Are you from Manila, the capital, or from somewhere else?
I'm from Tagaytay, which is four hours away from Manila. It's a little higher, in the mountains. We're close to volcanoes, which is one of the tourist parts. It's perfect weather for a singer, because it's not too hot and not too cold.
You got your first break on the kid-oriented talent show "Little Big Star." Is that entirely a singing competition, or do some kids do other stuff, like swallow swords?
Oh, no — it's all singing. It's pretty much like "American Idol" for kids. They have two divisions: 5 to 8 years old and 11 to 13. I was 12 when I went on. I passed the first auditions, then made it to the final screening, then went to television and got all the way to the finale. But I didn't win.
How close were you?
I came in third.
So how did you end up getting so much attention?
A guy named David in the Philippines — who I didn't know at the time — posted one of my performances from the show on YouTube. I was singing "I Will Always Love You." It got like a million hits. That's why I got discovered for a Korean talent show. Then I was performing in Korea and David posted one of those on YouTube, and Ellen DeGeneres saw that and after a week I made it on her show. Then friends posted the show from Ellen, and I got on "Oprah."

Paris Hilton is a single gal again; Jon's job status stumps Kate Gosselin

Thank goodness it's Friday! Ann O. is starting her weekend early, so Arienne Thompson is here to step into her stilettos for the day. Let's go celeb-hunting. ... Gwen Stefani and her handsome husband Gavin Rossdale put their best fashion feet forward last night in Beverly Hills. The two Gs came out for a Tod's boutique opening. ... Paris Hilton is officially back on the market after dumping Doug Reinhardt "more than two weeks ago," her rep confirmed to People.
Kate Gosselin has had a week full of highs and lows, but it seems she's trying to spread the misery by calling out her ex Jon Gosselin. She told Jay Leno last night that she wasn't aware of any job her ex has, and that's she grateful for her Dancing gig. "When work comes my way, I do it so I can literally put food on the table and send my kids to school," she said. ... Are Dita Von Teese's gold buttons big enough on her dress? Obama picks Elena Kagan for Supreme Court

What is going on in the mind of President Obama?

WASHINGTON — President Obama plans to nominate Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court this morning, the White House said Monday.
In choosing Kagan, Obama has turned to a highly credentialed lawyer who has spent her career in the corridors of legal power, including the past year as the government's advocate before the justices.
As former dean of Harvard Law School, Kagan had a reputation for bringing together ideological factions. That style might help her bridge differences on the divided court.

If confirmed, she will be the third woman on the current bench — and the fourth woman in the court's 221-year history. She would also be the fourth sitting justice with strong roots in New York City, where she grew up.
Perhaps most significantly for Obama's legal legacy, Kagan, who just turned 50, would be the youngest justice by five years. As such, Kagan's tenure could stretch for nearly four decades, deepening Obama's imprint on the nation's highest court.
Kagan would fill the spot of the retiring Justice John Paul Stevens. Her nomination, which was also reported late Sunday by other news media, is subject to Senate confirmation. Hearings would likely begin in late June or early July.
FAITH & REASON: The court's religious component
She would be the first appointee in nearly 40 years who was not previously a judge.
In 2003, Kagan became the first female dean of Harvard law school. She welcomed conservative professors to the liberal-dominated faculty.
When she was nominated to be solicitor general in 2009, Republican-appointed solicitors general Theodore Olson and Charles Fried, who is also a Harvard law professor, were among former solicitors who backed her. Kagan was approved by a vote of 61-31; only seven Republicans voted for her.

SHORT LIST: Kagan's competition
As solicitor general, she oversees appeals of government cases and regularly represents the Obama administration during oral arguments.
Until she became the government's top lawyer at the court, she had never argued before the justices. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., criticized her lack of experience and said he, a physician, would not send patients to professors who only talked about a field and had never practiced.
At the 2009 hearing, Kagan said, "When you get up to that podium at the Supreme Court, the question is much less how many times you have been there before than what do you bring up with you. And I think I bring up some of the right things

What is Salvia?

Salvia, or sage, is a large genus of plants, encompassing hundreds of species grown for culinary and ornamental purposes. Many garden supply stores carry several salvia species, differentiating between purely ornamental salvia and plants which can be used for cooking. All of the plants are characterized by upright flower stalks with clusters of often brightly colored flowers, along with square stems and slender grey-green to bright green leaves. When salvia is planted in an area it likes, the plant will flourish and reseed itself with little care.Sage is found all over the world, especially in Mediterranean climates. Culinary sages are mostly native to Europe, while decorative sage originated largely in the Americas. The plants have been further spread and hybridized by human intervention, since salvia is a popular addition to the garden.

For a low water garden or a garden with poor soil conditions, salvia is an excellent choice of ornamental plant and ground cover. Like many members of the mint family, salvia is very hardy, except in extremely cold weather, and it actually prefers poor soil, as long as it drains well. In temperate conditions, salvia can be grown as an annual, and it will turn into a very large bush if allowed to grow unchecked. Perennial salvia will reseed itself, and it can also be propagated through root division every few years. In a cold climate, salvia seedlings should be planted after the last frost in a warm, sunny spot. The red, purple, white, or orange blooms can be periodically deadheaded to keep the plant in flower, and the foliage will hang on until the winter weather is too overwhelming for the plant. Salvia can be used as a potted ornamental as well, although it does not do well indoors.
